Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for September 2021

September 22nd marks the beginning of autumn and the return of our seasonal residents.

Our August dance parties were well attended and we gave an Uptown Jammin’ shout out to new residents and guests. Tickets are available for first Friday, September 3rd, as well as third Friday, September 17th. Get your tickets early.

NOTE: For the consideration of others, if you are not fully vaccinated, we encourage you to wear a mask. Likewise, if you are not feeling well, get better soon; we will see you next time.
Masks will be provided if needed, and hand sanitizer will be available.

In this month’s newsletter, we’re spotlighting the S.A.S.S.I.E group (Single African-American Sisters Supporting, Informing, Empowering). Formed in October 2015 by founding members Phyllis Archibald, Millee Archibald, Helen Linton, Phyllis Mitchell and Shelly Williams, this 52-member group participates in activities such as exercise groups, line dancing, card and board games, pickle ball, and arts & crafts. This group of active and outgoing ladies plans day trips, attends plays, concerts and various festivals. For more information and/or to join their group, contact Phyllis Archibald at 732-236-4369.

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for August 2021

Uptown Jammin’s sold-out July 16th Grand Re-opening was a huge hit! Our guests showed up and showed out. We were thrilled to see you again and we made some new friends as well. Check out the video clip.

First Friday dance parties begin August 6th. Tickets and table reservations are now available. Get yours early. Typically, there’s more room on the dance floor, so come on out and enjoy a great evening. And don’t forget to let us know when you have visitors in town so we can give you and your guests a shout out. Birthdays and anniversaries will also be noted throughout the evening. The key is to let us know when you arrive.

As we are halfway through the year, be advised that season passes will not be available until January 2022.

We’ll be adding new pictures each month to the Photo Gallery of our website. Click the link below to check it out. Who knows, you might catch yourself or your loved one on the dance floor!

For the consideration of others, if you are not fully vaccinated, we encourage you to wear a mask. Masks will be provided if needed, and hand sanitizer will be available.

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for July 2021

Hope you had a great 4th of July celebration!

Though we had intermittent showers, those who braved the weather had a great time at our July 3rd Golf Cart Driveway Music Fest. We made some new friends and danced in the street (sometimes with umbrellas)!

And now, we’re getting set for the big kickoff on July 16th at Sea Breeze Recreation Center. We’re looking forward to seeing you and many of our friends at our Uptown Jammin’ Dance Party re-opening. Ticket response has been great and we are sold out. (Table reservations are limited on Third Fridays.)

No worries though. Tickets and tables are now available for August 6th – our First Friday dance party. Get yours early!

For the consideration of others, if you are not fully vaccinated, we encourage you to wear a mask. Masks will be provided if needed, and hand sanitizer will be available.

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for January 2021

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for January 2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our fans. We hope you had enjoyable moments during the holidays. We’re looking forward to a better, make that MUCH BETTER, 2021!

We are saddened by the passing of Ed Ainsley, a member of the R&B Line Dance Group who usually attended Nancy Brennen’s Monday class. Ed was a huge music fan, especially the oldies. He was a member of a couple of singing groups here in The Villages and enjoyed Uptown Jammin’s dance parties. We will miss him.

Although we didn’t have dance parties in 2020, we would like to thank our seasonal pass holders (you know who your are) for their contributions to the scholarship fund. Uptown Jammin’ supports combined programs of The African American Club of The Villages and the Sophisticated Gents of Florida, as well as the William F. Crumel Jr. Foundation.

We will continue monitoring CDC and local health officials’ guidance and will let you know when we can resume our dance parties. Please stay safe.

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for December 2020

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for December 2020

As we approach the end of a very challenging year, we wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for being committed Uptown Jammin’ fans. While we haven’t been able to meet and dance due to the pandemic, we have tried to stay in touch through our Newsletters.

We’ve also used this “downtime” to improve our equipment and communications platforms. In order to help defray the costs associated with these improvements, we are increasing our Advanced Ticket price from Seven to Eight dollars per person. “Will-Call” tickets (at the door) will remain $10 per person. For season tickets, contact Mamie Parker. (NOTE: These price changes are reflected on our website.)

In response to the many inquiries as to when we might resume, quite frankly, WE DON’T KNOW.  We are monitoring the situation related to COVID-19 and paying attention to guidance from local health officials and the CDC.  We continue to have high hopes that 2021 will bring about better times. We will communicate our plans with you through email and our website as soon as we have a better handle on when we might resume our dance party.

Meanwhile, we’ve added more pictures to the website which we hope you will enjoy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your families. Please stay safe!
