Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for April 2021

We are still planning and looking forward to resuming dance parties at Sea Breeze Regional Recreation Center on FRIDAY, JULY 16TH.

But, to get you in the mood, we will have another “GOLF CART DRIVEWAY FEST “ on Saturday, July 3rd (at Lawrence’s home at 17893 SE 88th Grimball Avenue in the Village of Piedmont). Members outside of The Villages may drive up in their cars – bring lawn chairs.

Finally, the picture above is from Three Sisters Springs, right here in Central Florida at Crystal River. It’s the ‘gem of the Nature Coast’. Visit their website at https://www.threesistersspringsvisitor.org and plan a day trip. You’ll be glad you did.

Best regards,

Lawrence & Bill

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for January 2021

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for January 2021

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our fans. We hope you had enjoyable moments during the holidays. We’re looking forward to a better, make that MUCH BETTER, 2021!

We are saddened by the passing of Ed Ainsley, a member of the R&B Line Dance Group who usually attended Nancy Brennen’s Monday class. Ed was a huge music fan, especially the oldies. He was a member of a couple of singing groups here in The Villages and enjoyed Uptown Jammin’s dance parties. We will miss him.

Although we didn’t have dance parties in 2020, we would like to thank our seasonal pass holders (you know who your are) for their contributions to the scholarship fund. Uptown Jammin’ supports combined programs of The African American Club of The Villages and the Sophisticated Gents of Florida, as well as the William F. Crumel Jr. Foundation.

We will continue monitoring CDC and local health officials’ guidance and will let you know when we can resume our dance parties. Please stay safe.

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for December 2020

Uptown Jammin’ Newsletter for December 2020

As we approach the end of a very challenging year, we wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for being committed Uptown Jammin’ fans. While we haven’t been able to meet and dance due to the pandemic, we have tried to stay in touch through our Newsletters.

We’ve also used this “downtime” to improve our equipment and communications platforms. In order to help defray the costs associated with these improvements, we are increasing our Advanced Ticket price from Seven to Eight dollars per person. “Will-Call” tickets (at the door) will remain $10 per person. For season tickets, contact Mamie Parker. (NOTE: These price changes are reflected on our website.)

In response to the many inquiries as to when we might resume, quite frankly, WE DON’T KNOW.  We are monitoring the situation related to COVID-19 and paying attention to guidance from local health officials and the CDC.  We continue to have high hopes that 2021 will bring about better times. We will communicate our plans with you through email and our website as soon as we have a better handle on when we might resume our dance party.

Meanwhile, we’ve added more pictures to the website which we hope you will enjoy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your families. Please stay safe!

Next Dance Date:  Friday, February 21, 2020

Hello to all of you.  We are back from our Caribbean cruise and look forward to seeing you this Friday.  We had a great time as you will see when we project the pictures at a future Uptown Jammin’.  There may be a few tickets available for this Friday’s mashup, so you still have a chance to get in on the fun.

We encourage you to use our new email address to request songs and communicate with us generally. Using the email address enables us to respond to your song requests in real time as the dance party is in progress (1 song per request).   We will accept song requests during the first half of the party (6:00 to 7:30pm).  You’ll also enjoy receiving shout-outs for birthdays, anniversaries, visiting family and guests.  Try it; you’ll like the results.

Hope to see you Friday, February 21, 2020.

Next Dance:  January 17, 2020

To all our members, dance instructors, families, friends and guests, welcome to 2020.  It was a great 2019, and the end of the year holiday festivities were no exception.  Join us at Club Sea Breeze for our first 3rd Friday of the New Year.  Tickets are still available, but don’t wait – get yours today….it’s sure to be happening!

2019 highlights include reaching platinum status on donations to local scholarship programs in our area.  We had our first cruise in March of last year (we’ll do it again next month aboard Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas).  We made some tweaks and changes to our half-time activities to allow you more time on the dance floor.  Members have repeatedly let us know that Uptown Jammin’ is a must see for their visiting families and guests.

Your support has allowed us to continue our twice monthly dance party for 2020.

OUR MEMBERS ROCK!!!
